Interstate 78 west
Does Pennsylvania Toll all their roads? Traveling southern PA along Interstate 78 from New Jersey, you'll exit and come to a toll plaza, There is a sign for a Welcome Center. The toll is .75 cents. Pennsylvania welcomes you with a toll, and as it turns out, the Welcome Center is located AFTER the toll.

There's a Holiday Inn and Comfort Inn at Exit 67. After Exit 67 the Interstate splits because of construction for 3 miles. It looks like they are rebuilding the Interstate and making it 3 lanes. Once you pass the construction, the Interstate is two lanes again, and not recently paved. There's a Days Inn at Exit 53, and a Holiday Inn at Exit 54b going around Allentown. There is a huge amusement park with a roller coaster at Exit 54b. At Exit 49 there are several more hotels like the Sleep Inn, and a Cracker Barrel, Holiday Inn and Hampton Inn at Exit 49a. PA farm

Then you'll see a huge sign for the Indian Echo Caverns in Hershey PA. Hershey is south of Interstate 78, amazingly you can't smell chocolate yet. Exit 80. You'll see a sign for Campers Welcome, at Krumsville, PA, Exit 40. Crystal Cave is at Exit 35 and also Hannock Mountain. There is more "road widening" construction at Exit 29. Then you'll see a huge Cabala's store at Exit 29a, and a Cracker Barrel at Exit 29b, along with a Microtel hotel. At Exit 23 there is camping, and the Dutch Motel. Exit 23 is Shartlesville. The Mountain Springs Camping Resort, the Haag Motel, and a Budget Inn and a Stuckey's and the Appalachian Campsites.

At Exit 19 there is an outlet for Pat Garret Sheepskin. At Exit 14 is Midway, PA, which includes a Comfort Suites and a truck stop. Exit 13 has the Bethel Truck stop, and there are several motels at Exit 8, and also KOA camping. The Interstate is dotted with huge farms and fields, in-between the towns.

Interstate 81 West
When you meet Interstate 81 going west, the Exits are high numbered again starting at Exit 89. Holiday Inn is at Exit 80, a Country Inn and Suites is at Exit 77, and the Hershey exit is Exit 77, and there are several hotels there. At the Rest Area there was specific directions on how to get to Hershey Park. The rest area is located in a rather scenic location.

There's a Flying J at Exit 52a, and a Cracker Barrel at Exit 69. There's a Best Western at Exit 72. Downtown Harrisburg is Exit 66. Harrisburg is a huge city, and located in a very scenic area.

There's a Ramada Inn at Exit 57, that's also the Exit for Mechanicsburg. Exit 52 has quite a few hotels and many places to eat. Then coming into Carlisle at Exit 45 there is a Days Inn, and the traffic starts getting heavier. There's a Cracker Barrel at Exit 47a, and the Sleep Inn, and a huge Walmart. There's a Days Inn and Super 8 Motel at Exit 44.

There's a Best Western at Exit 29, Shippensburg. There's a rest area before you get to Exit 37 Colonial Denning State Park is at Exit 37. At Exit 29 there is the Shippen Place Hotel, and a Best Western. There is a Super 8 Motel at Exit 20 a Comfort Inn and Caldonia State Park, and a Comfort inn. There is also a Best Western and Travel Lodge, and at Exit 16. At Exit 14 there is a Quality Inn and Suites, Holiday Express, and a Cracker Barrel.

Exit 1 is on the state line, between Maryland and Pennsylvania, and the Interstate 81 exits change again, starting at 10b and goes to an interchange where you can jump on Interstate 70, southwest of Hagerstown.
